Nail Applications Demystified!

What Are the Characteristics of Each Technique?

Nail applications offer different techniques, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.

Additionally, what are the potential negative effects of these techniques?

Let’s take a brief look at each method to better understand what might work best for you.

I have personally offered some of these techniques at different points in my professional career. Training is often short, but mastering these techniques requires a lot of practice. That’s the secret behind a skilled technician who delivers beautiful and long-lasting results.

As a consumer, I personally love the natural effect of resin and powder. Acrylic offers great durability but can be harsher on the health of the nails.

It’s up to you to choose what suits you best!

Resin and Powder

This technique is moderately easy and quick to execute.

  • It provides a thin and natural-looking result.
  • It can be applied directly to the natural nail, with extensions, or using silk wraps for a very natural elongation.
  • The technician can add glitter and embellishments easily.
  • Resin does not dry on its own; a catalyst spray is needed to harden it.
  • It is easy to remove by soaking.
  • Best suited for women with delicate daily tasks.
  • Lasts 2-4 weeks on average.

Gel Shellac Technique

A trending technique that has gained popularity in recent years.

  • Simple and quick to apply.
  • Used on natural nails to mimic a traditional polish manicure but with longer durability.
  • The gel is slightly thicker than regular polish and requires curing under a UV or LED lamp.
  • Removal is easy—just soak it off.
  • Great for women with gentle daily activities.
  • Lasts 2-3 weeks on average.

Sculpted UV Gel Technique

This technique has been around for years and can be applied to both natural nails and extensions.

  • The gel is sculpted onto the nail and cured under a UV lamp.
  • Similar to Shellac, but thicker and more challenging to apply.
  • More durable than Shellac but requires filing to remove instead of soaking.
  • Ideal for women with moderately demanding daily tasks.
  • Lasts 3-4 weeks on average.

Acrylic Technique

Acrylic nails have been around for a long time and are the most difficult to learn and master.

  • Once mastered, they offer endless creative possibilities!
  • Applied using a brush to shape the desired nail form.
  • Glitter and embellishments can be easily incorporated.
  • Acrylic dries naturally when exposed to air (ideal room temperature: 20-22°C).
  • Can be soaked off but takes longer than other methods—filing is usually faster.
  • Suitable for all nail types and shapes.
  • Perfect for women with very demanding daily tasks, offering superior durability.
  • Lasts 4-5 weeks on average, sometimes even longer.

Is Nail Application Harmful to My Nails?

No, getting your nails done is not inherently harmful. The real issue is poorly taught and applied techniques.

  • Improper filing and removal can damage your nails.
  • Low-quality products and bad hygiene practices can also lead to issues.
  • Always go to a qualified technician who respects nail health, uses high-quality products, and follows proper hygiene and work techniques.

What Makes a Good Nail Technician?

A good technician should:

✔ Maintain a clean workspace, disinfecting between clients.
✔ Use clean and sterilized tools.
✔ Ensure their work is gentle and never harms your nails.
✔ Use renowned professional products.
✔ Stay updated on trends and new techniques.
✔ Be creative and passionate about their work.

Look for a technician who takes their time and seems dedicated to their craft—this ensures beautiful, natural results without compromising the health of your nails!
